L’Observatoire International has developed the first-ever architectural lighting design for the Flatiron Building, one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks. Designed in 1902 by Daniel Burnham, the 22-story triangular structure has never been illuminated at night—until now.

As part of a comprehensive restoration led by Studio Sofield and approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the new lighting scheme highlights the building’s distinctive Beaux-Arts façade and its rich architectural detailing in brick, limestone, and terra cotta. The exterior illumination reveals the building’s full form after dark for the first time in its 123-year history, anchoring its presence in the evening skyline and enhancing its role within the public realm.

The project is currently in progress and will mark a significant moment in the life of the Flatiron, reintroducing this landmark to New York in a new light.
