At each level, light becomes a unifying language, weaving together the project’s diverse elements into a cohesive whole.
L’Observatoire International was invited by Terra Group and the interior architecture team at Gabellini Sheppard to develop the lighting concept for Five Park, a landmark residential project redefining the southern edge of Miami Beach.
Our scope encompassed the tower’s residences, 50,000 square feet of amenity spaces—including the exterior pool deck and the private Canopy Club with its wellness center, lounges, and dining areas—as well as the temporary sales gallery and the pedestrian bridge designed by Daniel Buren, which connects the tower to the waterfront. Our lighting approach at Five Park is rooted in an understanding of scale—city, neighborhood, and pedestrian. At each level, light becomes a unifying language, weaving together the project’s diverse elements into a cohesive whole.
Extensive studies of natural light informed our design decisions, especially in spaces that blur the line between interior and exterior, such as the porte cochère. Here, artificial lighting interacts with foliage and architectural textures to cast tropical shadows on the ceiling, creating an atmosphere that is both serene and dynamic. Light grazes columns, outlines planters, and traces the geometry of the structure—working in harmony with the setting sun. A starry pattern of downlights adds visual interest to the ceiling while providing functional illumination. This is especially critical during the day to balance natural light and avoid a cavernous feel, while at night, the dimmed fixtures lift and animate the ceiling.
At the tower’s crown, light transforms into a beacon: its elliptical form is defined by continuous linear LED fixtures, making Five Park a luminous landmark in the Miami skyline.
