In June 2020, The Mark was the first luxury hotel in New York City to reopen its doors after the coronavirus pandemic forced its temporary closure two and a half months earlier. With its welcoming staff and fashionable outdoor dining, The Mark became a beacon of light for people on the Upper East Side, and throughout the city, during an otherwise dark time. Now, that light is reflected in physical form with The Mark’s newly illuminated rooftop cupola by Hervé Descottes, of renowned lighting design firm L'Observatoire International, combining light with architecture to create a uniquely captivating sight. Visible from the neighborhood streets and at a distance, the roof of the iconic Upper East Side hotel and landmarked building now beams a warm, green glow, a new permanent fixture in New York City’s nighttime skyline.
