Caviar Kaspia, the storied Parisian institution, opens its doors at The Mark Hotel. Featuring exquisite design by the legendary Jacques Grange, the restaurant brings the art of caviar to the heart of Manhattan’s Upper East side.

Caviar Kaspia, founded in Paris in 1927, is opening its first New York City location at The Mark Hotel, at the corner of Madison Avenue and 77th Street. L’Observatoire International previously provided the lighting design for The Mark Hotel’s iconic interior and exterior spaces throughout as well as The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges, and now seamlessly deepens the property’s rich heritage with the lighting design for Caviar Kaspia.

The interiors of this restaurant and retail bar, designed by Spivak Architects, feature sumptuous finishes signature to the brand. The lighting design by L’Observatoire International celebrates the materiality throughout, backlighting onyx and glass panels or using glowing fabric lampshades and curtains to create a rich warmth to contrast the black marble, wood, mirror and dark fabric finishes.

Discreet micro downlights organized within the wood paneled ceiling allow for an inviting, bright and lively daytime atmosphere. As evening sets, the lighting becomes more intimate - the downlights fade out and and warm glowing fabric lamps set at each table bring the mood lighting into personalized zones. The glowing architectural features throughout have tunable white capabilities to further transition the space throughout the day. The result is a lighting design that is attuned to both the programmatic needs of the space and the greater composition of the property as a whole.
