To celebrate the Kunsthalle’s fortieth birthday, the Sculpture Park, which was restored in accordance with Philip Johnson’s original plans, was re-opened on September 27, 2008. An elegant, narrow water basin and looping walkways create an inviting place for a stroll. The outdoor sculptures by artists such Olafur Eliasson, Sol LeWitt, Henry Moore, and Thomas Schütte, will be illuminated with new lights at night. The restoration of the park was made possible by the generosity of Dorothea Winkler, of Bielefeld, as well as by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the City of Bielefeld. The Kunsthalle Bielefeld is a modern art museum in Bielefeld, Germany. It was designed by Philip Johnson in 1968, and paid for by the businessman and art patron Rudolf August Oetker.
