The lighting design scheme is based on the tonal qualities of Dutch Golden Age painting.
De Durgerdam is a boutique hotel and restaurant (De Mark) housed in a 17th-century heritage building on the water, about 15 minutes from Amsterdam.
Lighting design is by L'Observatoire International, developed alongside interior design by Buro Belén. The scheme is based on the tonal qualities of Dutch Golden Age painting, using warm, low-intensity light and candlelight to reference the coastal daylight and shadow found in that period's work.
Lighting throughout the heritage structure is delivered through concealed, high-efficiency LED fixtures, supporting the property's gas-free operation.
