Pont du Gard
Artist James Turrell created a lighting concept that alternately reveals different volumetric aspects of the structure. In a cycle lasting forty-five minutes, the lighting shifts from revealing only the flat surface of the aqueduct, to the entire three dimensional volume, to only the undersides of the arches. The color of the lighting also changes during this cycle, eventually making the entire structure disappear by mimicking the blue of the night sky.
