AP House New York

Since 1875, watchmaker Audemars Piguet has perpetuated its founders’ ancestral savoir-faire in a forward-thinking manner far beyond the birthplace of Le Brassus, Switzerland. A storied history of design and mastery, tradition and innovation, and meticulous craftsmanship has long-secured its spot as a global and cultural icon.

In collaboration with Bonetti Kozerski Architecture, L’Observatoire International provided the lighting design for the inaugural United States–based AP House, located in the Meatpacking District of New York City. Inspired by the cutting-edge micro-mechanics synonymous with the famed timepieces, intricate layers of accent and ambient light shine throughout the refined interiors. In a fine-tuned juxtaposition, atmospheric lighting casts a soft and modern glow, while precise spotlights draw the eye to moments of intrigue and awe.

With the guide of hidden light sources and crafted fixtures alike, visitors are drawn through the vibrant reception area and on to the Audemars Piguet Heritage Room. Here, finely calibrated beams bestow dazzling highlights on the legendary watches of the past and present, which in turn appear to radiate luminescence of their own accord. Echoing the status of Audemars Piguet as pioneers within and beyond watchmaking, the space’s finale joins heritage, craftsmanship, and connection. A versatile lounge offers a deeply social element, complete with a low-lustre piano, a downlit dining area, and an opulent, accented bar. In these spectacular surroundings, guests can enjoy exclusive events, lounge if the mood strikes them, and share their love for watches over dinner and drinks, regardless of intent to browse the current collection.

Just as a highly-engineered timepiece delicately turns with the changing hour, the diffuse and exquisite gleam of daylight deepens with the setting sun for indulgently rich hues in the evening. Bolstered by nearly 150 years of excellence, the new AP House eclipses the traditional retail space and brings a finer, spirited experience to light.
