Hudson Yards, the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States, spans 28 acres and will house more than 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space, 5 state-of-the-art office towers, more than 100 shops, a collection of restaurants, approximately 5,000 residences, a unique cultural space, 14 acres of public open space, a 750-seat public school and an Equinox® branded luxury hotel with approximately 200 rooms.
The lighting masterplan centers on a hierarchy of scale to make sense of the immense site. From various viewpoints in the city and across the river, the glowing rooftops of the towers will define the site, providing a graphic, visual identity to the site as a whole. In the neighborhood of Hudson Yards, one will see a distinct glow emanating from within the site, and the grazing of various surfaces with light will provide a sense of materiality and texture. The pedestrian within the site will become a part of this glow, helping them to establish a relationship to the architectural elements.
L’O is designing the lighting for the masterplan, the Retail Pavilion, and for the facades, observation decks and interior public spaces of the following towers: 10, 15, 30 and 35 Hudson Yards.
