The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA) are a combined art museum and movie theater archive in Berkeley, California. The Museum also serves as the visual arts center of the University of California, Berkeley, and is one of the largest university art museums in the United States.

In 2008 Toyo Ito was commissioned to redesign the Museum. Toyo Ito Architects worked with L’Observatoire International to design a fluid and inviting visitor experience within the neutral gallery spaces. At the exterior, L’Observatoire designed a system of concealed fixtures that shed cool light upon the curvy lines and warped corners of the structure in order to emphasise the museum’s modernity and cosmopolitan appeal.

The project was ultimately not realised due to lack of funds.
